BlueScope To Invest 415M In Western Sydney To Add 240ktpa Metal Coating Capacity

Jul 18, 2023Jul 18, 2023

BlueScope is today hosting a ceremony at its Western Sydney Service Centre to announce BlueScope Board approval of a $415M expansion of metal coating capacity at its Erskine Park, NSW site. As one of BlueScope’s previously stated ‘future investment priorities’, the additional metal coating line (MCL7) will have capacity to produce up to 240ktpa of BlueScope’s value-added, metal coated products, such as ZINCALUME steel, TRUECORE steel, and feed for the Company’s iconic COLORBOND steel products.

The project, which is subject to NSW Government planning approval, is expected to be fully commissioned and operational by the end of calendar year 2025, with a total capital cost of $415M – up on prior expectations due to further development in the scope of the project and general inflationary pressures.

BlueScope’s Managing Director & CEO, Mark Vassella, said “This significant investment in Australian manufacturing will better enable us to meet our customers’ growing demand for steel building and construction products – in particular, TRUECORE steel light gauge steel framing and feed for COLORBOND steel for roofing and walling applications.”

“The additional metal coated production capacity will also give us greater capability and enhanced flexibility to deliver the levels of service that our customers expect of us,” Mr Vassella said.

Mr Vassella will be joined at the announcement ceremony by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen MP, along with members of BlueScope’s Australian Steel Products leadership team
