Cellforce, a subsidiary of Porsche, is joining mechanical and plant engineering firm Dürr Systems and LiCAP Technologies to develop dry electrode battery technology as an alternative to the established wet coating process.

Dürr has been working in partnership with US coating specialist LiCAP Technologies since last year, and started offering dry coating systems in 2024 following its acquisition of the French mechanical engineering company Ingecal. Dürr has had an agreement to supply Cellforce with electrode coating since 2021.

The expanded collaboration with Cellforce focuses on integrating LiCAP’s Activated Dry Electrode technology into Cellforce’s battery production line.

LiCAP’s technology is designed to improve battery performance while eliminating toxic solvents and energy-intensive drying ovens, reducing process times.

Dürr has commissioned a gigawatt-scale proof-of-concept cathode line in Chassieu, France.

“By collaborating with LiCAP, Dürr is broadening its dry coating solutions to support customers like Cellforce in adopting this innovative dry electrode production process,” said Bernhard Bruhn, Dürr’s Vice President, Global Business LIB.
